Your body is a temple?

I Corinthians 6:19 says that your body is a temple, therefore you shouldn’t

Smoke this…

Drink that…

Eat this…

Tattoo that.

Except… that’s not what it’s talking about.

I Corinthians 6:18,19 is actually referring to sexual sin. It says, “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

See what I mean?

Sexual deviancy then, it would seem, is especially damaging to one’s self. If you’ve ever transgressed in this area (as most of us have), you already know this to be true. The feelings of guilt and shame associated with these acts are heavier, and more difficult to get over than that of any other type of sin.

But what about the other though? After all, if the prooftext against smoking, drinking, and tattooing (or whatever else deemed unholy by some) is in fact, not a prooftext, and altogether something else, what then are we to do?

We are to not judge.

Really.
