Christians, please stop comparing the churches in America during this pandemic to examples of religious persecution. The government is not mandating what we can preach like they were when Peter said, “…we ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29

The government is not mandating to whom you may pray like King Darius did by signing a document forbidding prayer (petitioning) to anyone but himself for 30 days.

“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” Daniel 6:10

Churches are not being singled out like Stephen was in Acts 6-7. Theaters, salons, shops, restaurants, sport’s arenas, bars, and amusement parks (to name a few) are all closed too.

Stop distorting Scripture. Personally, I think Peter, Daniel, and Stephen (not to mention countless other Christians throughout history and today) would find your idea of persecution laughable.

You’re not being persecuted, but you are being asked to love and be considerate of others.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35

Particularly loving the other fellow Christians, who are also struggling and missing fellowship with their church body. Don’t tear down your teammates.

“Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;” Romans 12:9-10

You’re not being persecuted, but you are being asked to think outside the box and get creative in the way you share the Gospel.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19

Have you been praying for revival in our country? This is your moment! America is being shaken awake! We are being forced out of our comfort zone (the church building) to reach a lost world. People are scared. This is the perfect opportunity to reach some who would never step foot in a building. Look at how social media has been flooded with messages of the Gospel. Look at the people finding creative ways to give back to their communities: homeschool help, sewing masks, delivering necessities, making food, etc.. God might just be answering your prayers!

“… if I send pestilence (disease) among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:13b-14

Our leaders were set in their place by an omniscient God, who knew this was coming long before we did. He put them in their position, just like He allowed a Jewish girl named Esther to become queen that she might save her people from persecution.

“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

Our leaders too have been placed by God Himself for such a time as this.

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:” Romans 13:1-3

I’m pleading with you to stop holding so tightly to tradition that you begin to resist God and the work He is doing across America, simply because it doesn’t look like the previous revivals we’ve experienced. That was one of Jesus’ main complaints against the Pharisees, remember?

“But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?” Matthew 15:3 (Go ahead and read verses 1-20 if you want to get the full extent of His frustration.)

God is moving! It’s time to stop bickering and complaining about what we’ve been asked to do. Stop digging in your heels. Let’s see what God can do if we will just surrender to His leading.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3:5-7
